Roy Halladay: A bad idea for the Mets

Roy Halladay. He's the guy that most Mets fans dream about. The guy that would give us the best 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation in baseball.

But can we really afford Roy Halladay?

Not only prospect-wise, but money-wise?

Halladay will most likely demand a pricey extension wherever he's traded, and with the Mets financial situation and need for players at many positions, is he really worth it?

The answer, unfortunately, is no. The Halladay deal would be a lose-lose situation for the Mets. Not only would we give up the few remaining prospects we have, but also bundles of cash that could used to fill voids in left field, 1st base, the bench, and the rest of the rotation.

What is the Mets 'financial position' other than frugality? They still drew over 3 million, are receiving millions for the naming rights to Citi Field, have a successful network with sellable programming. This myth that the Wilpon's are in dire straits is a bogus one. They can afford to enter the free agent market. Making 4for one trades is killing their farm.

Come on...."with their financial situation" - what a load of ....
They have the money. They just don't want to spend it. And there is no guarantee on prospects. Just look at the Santana trade. What are the guys they gave up doing now....
Get Halladay, sign Lackey and fill in with 2nd tier position players until next year.

I agree with everything you said, except for the fact that there is a void at first base. Murphs second half was very good, I don't see why people have such a problem with him. See my blog for more thoughts on Halladay.

i beleive signing halladay would put the mets over the top, with a healthy beltran and reyes coming back and maybe even delgado depending on his winter ball progress.signing a second tier player to play left would suffice with such an awesome starting rotation and the best closer in the game.

Don't get me wrong. I would love Roy Halladay on the Mets, but I don't see it as practical right now. With the holes on the offense and the multiple holes in pitching, I think the Mets resources and money should be spent elsewhere.
